Heard of the Value Proposition Canvas?

You're likely already doing it.

If you've ever tried to align a product to customer needs or justify your messaging in a campaign deck, you've probably done some version of it—just less formally. The Value Proposition Canvas, developed by Strategyzer, helps teams visualize the fit between what you offer and what your customer actually needs. And let’s face it: this alignment is often the missing piece when launches fall flat or messaging doesn’t convert.

The canvas has two parts:

1. Customer Profile

🎯 Jobs-to-be-done: What your customer is trying to accomplish

💢 Pains: What's getting in their way or annoying them

✨ Gains: What success looks or feels like

2. Value Map

🛠️ Products & Services: What you offer

🚫 Pain Relievers: How you address frustrations

🎁 Gain Creators: How you deliver real value

A perfect fit

When these two sides click, that's product-market fit magic. And when they don’t? You’ll feel it in poor engagement, misaligned messaging, or an awkward sales handoff. Think of it as a mirror: one side reflects your customer’s reality, and the other shows how your product earns its place in their world.

The secret

And, I'll let you in on a little secret: The Blueprint for Demand is Called Product Marketing. If I’ve learned anything from my wide and deep marketing career, it's this: you can’t generate demand without a plan—and that plan must come with a blueprint AND a toolkit.

🧱 The blueprint is the discipline called Product Marketing.

🧰 The toolkit is the content that activates that blueprint across channels.

At its best, Product Marketing zooms in on:

⚡ How to describe your product so it’s not “just another solution”

⚡ Who it’s for—and who it’s not

⚡ How to position it clearly against competitors

⚡ What stories or proof points spark trust

Product marketing- the sweetspot

It’s not just about copywriting or sales enablement—it’s the architecture behind every high-performing funnel, nurture track, and thought leadership piece.Product marketing is where strategy meets storytelling.

📣 So, want to build a content machine that doesn’t just fill space but moves the buyer forward? Start here. This is the discipline that connects the market’s needs to your product’s soul. (And again, you're likely already doing some aspect of product marketing whether that's in your job title or not.)
